We all forget it: our time is limited. We take whatever time we have left in this world for granted. It’s not like we are going to be here forever. Why not use it a bit more wisely?
Maybe it’s because we have “too much” of it. Or maybe it’s because we are “desensitized” to the passing of it. Maybe it’s the scariest thing on Earth that we don’t want to think about it. When was the last time you stopped chasing whatever you are chasing, and reflected on how much time you have left?
As you chase after money, fame, success – or whatever you think you should go after – the only thing that goes by is time.
As you pursue your dreams, your goals – the only thing that runs out is time.
As you hesitate about making a move, going after something you want; as you hold back, and postpone your dreams to “another day” – the only thing that is wasted is time.
You might have prioritised other things in your life and put those first, before you thought about putting your own time, first. You might have thought money is the most important thing to have and that you should accumulate as much of it as possible – and I agree with you, in this day and age, who doesn’t think about it? Maybe you decided to spend most of your life doing something you don’t quite enjoy, just so you can have a bit of freedom towards the end of your life. Maybe you are labouring all day, without seeing your family, just so you can feed your family. Or maybe you are just wasting your days hoping that one day you will figure out what you want to do.
Whatever it is you are doing, stop for a moment and face it: the time is running. It doesn’t matter how much money, fame, success, belongings or material stuff you accumulate. The one thing you have given in exchange for obtaining all these things is your time. Those precious moments from your own life. Those hours and minutes that will never come back. That precious “currency” that you don’t even know how much of it you’ve got left. After all, it’s not like you can check your “balance” online!
Yes, it is bloody scary and depressing. But if that’s what it takes to get you to see it, then here it is: your time is limited. Don’t waste it on things that don’t make you happy. Don’t spend it on things that don’t mean much to you. Don’t give it to those who don’t know the value of it.
Instead, spend it with the people that matter to you the most. Use it to do things that make you enjoy your life the most. Smile more, worry less. Forgive and forget more. Spend more time with your family, your kids, your pets, your friends. Don’t postpone those experiences that will enrich your life. Don’t waste a single moment of it following others’ dreams and rules. Don’t trade your precious time for man-made currencies that don’t mean much in the end.
Time is the most precious thing you will ever have. How can it not be! Your whole life is made of it!
Therefore, before you forget about this fact and carry on with your life again, take that time… and use it wisely.
